Andrew Mackenzie and Louise Longley were recently appointed joint administrators of SH Structures Ltd – a multi award-winning steelwork business set up in 1992 by the chairman Simon Holden, with approximately 70 staff, based in Sherburn-in-Elmet.
Established over 30 years ago, the business designed, manufactured and installed complex steel structures. High-profile projects include The Kelpies, monumental 30m high steel horseheads near Falkirk in Scotland; Hull’s eye-catching ‘Murdoch’s Connection’ bridge; and the PoliNations – a public sculpture of five giant architectural steel trees in Birmingham.
The business had been particularly hard hit by the downturn following the Covid-19 pandemic, and more recently suffered from losses on various contracts and a gap in the production schedule due to projects being delayed.
Unfortunately, no sale of the business could be achieved, but the actions of Begbies Traynor Group ensured all employee claims and queries were dealt with quickly and efficiently. Begbies Traynor Group instructed agents, Eddisons Commercial Ltd,(an entity within Begbies Traynor Group) to deal with the assets, and RemoteZone supported and dealt with the securement of the leasehold premises.
All parties involved worked together seamlessly to ensure that the majority of the assets were realised within the first month of appointment. The property was vacated within that time frame, which led to minimum leasehold costs and, therefore, maximised realisations to enable a return to the preferential creditors (employees).
